Project C5 • Synthesis of Covalently Linked Organic Frameworks via Reversible Nitroxide-Exchange Reaction

The goal of the presented research project is the development of novel and advanced synthesis conditions for the construction of highly organized, covalently-linked organic frameworks, via self-assembly of molecular building blocks. The mechanism for the covalent linkage of the molecular building blocks is the nitroxide-exchange reaction, because it is fully reversible, not influenced by most functional groups, and the final frameworks can be post-synthetically modified. In order to optimize the reaction conditions in a rational way, we will also monitor the progress of the exchange reaction in-situ, using highly sensitive methods, such as EPR- and fluorescence spectroscopy.
